The Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC) is a small, independent, nationally and internationally respected, scientific, not-for-profit organisation (c40 staff in total), using accurate data to help improve the quality of critical care through audit, research and education, conducted with, and in the interests of, patients and those who care for them. Most recently, ICNARC has been centrally involved in the response to COVID-19 through weekly reporting on admissions to, and outcomes from, intensive care and as the UK methods centre for the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) endorsed REMAP-CAP trial which is currently recruiting in 140 centres in the UK.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Manager to lead on the implementation and maintenance of effective data management processes across a wide range of activities at ICNARC and to provide leadership to other Data Managers within the organisation.

Working primarily in the ICNARC Clinical Trials Unit, the successful applicant will be responsible for leading the governance, data curation and management, for ICNARC’s activities as the Data Coordination Centre for global adaptive platform trial REMAP-CAP. The Senior Data Manager will also oversee the data management activities for the broad portfolio of ICNARC-led research studies ( including the development of relevant policies, Standard Operating Procedures, dataset specifications, dataset flows, case report forms and data management plans. You will also lead in the development of data collection/validation systems and ensure that data meet the standards of quality expected for reporting both internally and to regulatory bodies and trial committees in accordance with the relevant legislation.

In addition to supporting data management across ICNARC’s National Audit Programme, including input into updates to data specifications, the Senior Data Manager will also be central in the specification of a new data warehouse, which will house anonymised research study and audit datasets for external access.

What you’ll need to succeed

We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of your work. The successful applicant will have extensive experience working with data and will be able to think analytically about requirements for implementing and maintaining data management processes. Experience of data management curation and dataset specification are essential.

Experience of planning, developing, implementing and maintaining data management processes for clinical trials or national clinical audits would be beneficial. As would additional knowledge of SQl/T-SQL, experience of electronic data capture software for clinical research e.g. MACRO and experience of using MS Visio.
